Chief Hutchins is a 45-year veteran of the North Carolina Fire Service. He has served for over thirty years as a Chief Officer, holding the rank of Fire Chief for 15 years at Walkertown Fire Department, before retiring in December of 2018.
Wesley holds an Associates Degree in Fire Protection Technology, a Bachelor's Degree from Gardner-Webb University and a Masters Degree from Grand Canyon University. Chief Hutchins has been a Fire Services Instructor for over 30 years, holding several North Carolina Fire Rescue Commission certifications and qualifications. A graduate of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program, Wesley has also received the Chief Fire Officer Designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence.
Chief Hutchins retired in 2021 from Forsyth Technical Community College, after 25 years of service, managing their public safety training programs. A long-time member of NCAFC, he has also served as past president of the North Carolina State Firefighters' Association and was named the 2010 NCAFC Volunteer Fire Chief of the Year.
Wesley and his wife Mary have been married for 34 years and have two adult children, Mallory Hutchins Robbins, and son Reid Hutchins.
